I have an interesting stat line for you: Did you know that over 90% of recruiters are browsing LinkedIn to find candidates like you?
Yet, many people miss the mark with their profiles.
If that's you, don't fret - I'm here with a few simple tweaks that can make a significant difference:
Here’s how:
1. Picture Perfect
Start with a sharp, professional headshot of yourself. It's our digital first impression. As for that wide cover space behind? It's prime real estate. Create a striking banner on Canva, search "LinkedIn Cover Photo/Banner". Make it resonate with your journey. See below for an example of mine!
2. Headline Excellence:
This isn’t just your job title; it’s a sneak peek into your story. State your role or ambition, sprinkle in your "why" (like my commitment to turning underdogs into champs), and wrap with skills you're proud of. For example, I include on mine my mission, previous/current roles, and anything I want to showcase to viewers of my profile.
3. Experience Showcase:
Treat this section as your digital elevator pitch. Include the following:
💡A concise role summary
💡A couple of accomplishment bullets (similar to your resume)
💡And the skills making you perfect for the role
Here’s an example of how mine looks for my role at Google:
4. Skill It Up:
Right at the bottom of your profile lies the skills section. Unsure what to include? Mirror your resume. Say, for a marketing enthusiast like me, it should echo my niche.
5. Stay Active and Engage:
Your network is your net worth. Share valuable insights, participate in conversations, and display your standout pieces in the featured section. Stay active, stay noticed!
For mine, I include relevant posts and websites I want people to see when they go to my profile!
And then once you’re done with your LinkedIn profile, be sure to start networking.
