Hi there!
Happy November underdogs!

This past week, an article has been circulating the news recently talking about how having the Open to Work Sign is “desperate”.
Now the question is this - do I agree or disagree with this statement?
The answer: No actually, and here’s why.
In today’s society where job-seekers are getting laid off and the unemployment rate continues to skyrocket, simply adding the green #OpenToWork sign on your LinkedIn profile doesn’t make you desperate.
It instead shows that you have the humility to admit that you need help.
And I value job-seekers who do that.
Now, what I wouldn’t recommend is having the green #OpenToWork sign if you’re currently working and want to make a career transition.
Because what employer would want to see their employee knowingly looking for another role…
So, how do you hide this from your employer, and what do I recommend job-seekers do with Open To Work?
Here’s what you should do.
Step 1: Go to Open to your Open to Work - if it’s turned on, turn it off TEMPORARILY for a few hours (let’s say 24 hours). Should look something like this below!
Step 2: After 24 hours, go back to your Open To and fill in your information. You can add your positions, employment types, and visibility. For visibility, you can choose either or - what I usually recommend is to “recruiters only”, but if you want to do ALL LinkedIn members, that’s fine as well. Just make sure you’re someone who isn’t working right now where your employer may see!
Now, if adding Open To Work doesn’t work, there’s another secret hack you can do that I’ve taught millions of job-seekers…
Just go on LinkedIn and search “Open to work + the field you’re interested in”. Then filter to “Posts”.
All these posts will show up and guess what? It’s people not only asking for help, but also people actively recruiting, like David in the post below!
Hopefully, this ends some of the debate about whether you should have the Open To Work sign.
We shouldn’t judge job-seekers based on having the sign - instead, I respect them.
And yes - times like these are when you ask for help on your job search, and I hope I can continue to help every one of you with yours.
