Jonathan Javier here, let's talk RESUMES—do you love or hate them?
I love them because you can use platforms such as ResumAI by Wonsulting to create yours in <15 minutes.
But to go into the nitty gritty of it - what should you NOT include on your resume?
Here’s a starting point of what to NOT include:
❌ Full Address: No one has to know the exact location you live - stick to having your city only (Example: Los Angeles, CA)
❌ Objective Statement: Your objective is to get a job, so this is already implied.
❌"References Upon Request": Don’t need them; if someone wanted them, they’d ask!
❌Exact Dates of Employment: Month and year are enough (Example: January 2023 - March 2023)
❌Salary and Notice Period: This could even potentially hurt you and limit the amount you can make!
❌Personal Info: Like age, DOB, or bank password (Yeah, you’d be surprised how many people do this!)
❌”Cliche” terms: Avoid phrases like "hard worker," "team player," or "responsible for” in your skills section.
And what SHOULD you include? Do this:
✅City + LinkedIn URL: Easier for people to find you (Optional: Portfolio if no LinkedIn)
✅Summaries are OPTIONAL, but in my opinion - use them if you are making a caree pivot (Example: Sales -> Product Management). If not, let your work experience speak itself!
✅Month and Year: Simplify the timeline for recruiters
✅Relevant Skills: Show what skills you bring to the table that are relevant to the job you are applying for
✅ Metrics Rule: For every 3 bullet points, include metrics. Use action verbs like managed,' 'improved,' or 'revamped.'
And last piece of advice :)
✅Make sure to highlight your achievements, not just your responsibilities. Recruiters and hiring managers want to see the “so what’ of your positions, aka the “why does it matter” and “why should I hire you < other candidates”
You can see more details on this method, or you can find them on my Instagram channel.
We're all in this together.
I want you to land that job as much as you do.
The resume is the first step, but don't worry, I’ve got loads more insights to share in the coming weeks.
Keep grinding and remember: your dream job is just a killer resume away (and if you need help, we can make your resume for you here)
Let me know know it’s all going for you!
