Negotiating.
Thrilling, terrifying, embarrassing, exciting—there are lots of ways to think about it.
But one thing’s clear. It’s super important.
In fact, negotiating your compensation is one of the most important things you can do in your career journey.
So this week we’re showing you:
📩 How to maximize your negotiations with email
🤝 How we helped Alejandra become an Account Manager
🤗 How we build community at Wonsulting
🩺 Industry insights into the field of medicine
So negotiating a salary in real life is tough.
On a scale of instant ramen to macarons, negotiating sits at a solid handmade sushi, like with the bamboo roller, or even a cheese soufflè.
But anyway, we’re hungry and you just want to know how to negotiate for a higher salad—salary. Higher salary.
So here's what you do: Use email.
You don’t need a live fast-thinking negotiation session.
After you get the offer letter (which is usually when you're in the best position to negotiate), send them this email template:
"Hi (name),
Thank you so much for offering me the [position] role at [company]! I'm excited for the opportunity, as I enjoyed the interview process because [why you enjoyed the interview process].
Before I can accept this offer, I wanted to discuss the salary proposed in the offer letter. As mentioned before, my qualifications include the following:
[Your qualifications here]
After doing market research for this role and considering my experience, I believe my salary should be between [minimum amount you'd like to receive] and [maximum amount].
What can we do to get closer to this number than the one proposed?
Thank you again. Have a great day.
Best regards, [Your Name]"
And there you have it. It’s a simple template that can earn you more compensation at your next role.
Remember that monetary compensation is only one metric. If they can’t raise your salary, then ask them how else they can compensate you!
Alejandra’s Canadian visa was about to expire.
She needed a job—quick.
So she turned to us.
And (spoiler alert) we got her hired! Here’s how.
First, we transformed her resume from a simple list of experiences to a dynamic highlight reel of her achievements. This wasn't just about formatting and keywords—it was about spotlighting Alejandra's most impressive accomplishments.
Next, we prepped her for interviews. We didn’t just give her answers. We taught her a whole new approach. She learned how to turn interviews into conversations and effectively articulate her skills.
Her determination and our guidance combined to make her unstoppable.
The result? A fantastic job offer as an Account Manager at Transperfect. Just in the nick of time.
Our Life at Wonsulting series continues this week with our latest biweekly board game session!
We played skribble.io, which is pretty much an online pictionary game.
As a fully remote team from around the world, we build our workplace community with fun events like these 😄
Here’s a screenshot from the game. It’s fitting that the picture quality is potato, because we were trying (or rather failing) to draw mashed potatoes 😅
And here’s what we said about the game on Slack 👀
What game should we play next?
Hit reply and let us know!
If we choose your game we’ll be sure to shout you out in the next newsletter! 😄
